Site planning for the JTF project sites will begin in spring 2025.

Last year, the Finnish Game Foundation was awarded JTF funding for the restoration of five different peat production areas in Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu as part of the POPKA project. Planning work for the sites will begin in spring 2025.

Once the planning work has been completed, machine contracting is scheduled to begin during the latter part of the year, weather and other conditions permitting. The restoration will increase biodiversity and improve the condition of the waterways below the wetland.

The aim is to complete the JTF project in its entirety by the end of 2026. EU JTF funding will support the transition away from activities such as peat production, which generate significant carbon dioxide emissions.
