Reveal a former peatland!
In summer 2024, the Finnish Game Foundation will start a restoration project with JTF funding to restore peat production areas in North Ostrobothnia and Kainuu.
In former peatland areas, the necessary dams will be built, nesting sites will be created and water will be raised, both to improve carbon sequestration and to restore waterfowl habitats.
Are you aware of any former peat production areas without further use plans?
The Finnish Game Foundation also aims to submit a second parallel project application to the JTF call towards the end of 2024, once a sufficient number of suitable peat production areas for restoration have been found.
