The Sammakka smallholdings are located along the Kokonjärvi River, which flows into Lake Kokonjärvi, partly in Pirkanmaa and partly in Kanta-Häme. The Sammakka allotments are three sites in close proximity to each other, combining agricultural water protection and waterfowl habitat management. The wetland complex consists of the Sammaka wetland itself, the floodplains and flood banks of the field stream that flows into the field stream, a dammed small wetland on the side of the field stream and old clay ponds that help to clean the water that flows into the field stream. The Finnish Game Management Foundation supported the wetlands with funding from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the wetland plans were prepared by the SOTKA wetlands. The Kokonjärvi Conservation Association is also actively involved in the project.
