The restoration of Kotisuo will bring water back to the former peatland, reducing carbon emissions from peat decomposition, while creating a great habitat for waterfowl and waders.

The former Kotisuo peat production area in Pudasjärvi is a fully privately owned site that is being restored as part of the Finnish Game Management Foundation’s JTF-funded POPKA project. The restoration plans for the area will be carried out by the Finnish Game Centre’s SOTKA Wetlands project, and the machine work will be coordinated by the Finnish Game Management Foundation and carried out as a purchased service. The restoration of the site is mainly financed by the ELY Centre of North Ostrobothnia, and the site will be implemented with JTF funding.
