{"id":3349,"date":"2024-07-02T10:25:19","date_gmt":"2024-07-02T07:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.riistasaatio.fi\/reveal-a-former-peatland\/"},"modified":"2025-03-03T10:06:11","modified_gmt":"2025-03-03T08:06:11","slug":"reveal-a-former-peatland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.riistasaatio.fi\/en\/reveal-a-former-peatland\/","title":{"rendered":"Reveal a former peatland!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"_lead\">In summer 2024, the Finnish Game Foundation will start a restoration project with JTF funding to restore peat production areas in North Ostrobothnia and Kainuu.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>In former peatland areas, the necessary dams will be built, nesting sites will be created and water will be raised, both to improve carbon sequestration and to restore waterfowl habitats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"vuonna-2022-myonnetyt-apurahat\">Are you aware of any former peat production areas without further use plans?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Finnish Game Foundation also aims to submit a second parallel project application to the JTF call towards the end of 2024, once a sufficient number of suitable peat production areas for restoration have been found.
